Here is what our trip to Korea will likely look like:
We will arrive in Korea on Thursday and check in to our hotel. We will be staying in a hotel the entire trip. On Friday, we HOPE we will be able to meet Alex for the first time. Since we are traveling so quickly after getting our travel call, however, we've been warned that Friday may not work out (schedule-wise), and we may need to wait until next week. All meetings happen at our agency with the foster family and social worker. The agency is closed over the weekend so if we don't get to meet Alex on Friday, we will have to wait until Monday.
After our first meeting with Alex, our social worker will determine when we will meet again. We will have either 2 or 3 meetings depending on schedules and how well Alex is warming up to us. I don't know how long the meetings last. Maybe an hour or so.
At the end of the last meeting, there is a short ceremony and then Alex is placed in our arms forever! As exciting as this will be for us, it will likely be a very traumatic time for Alex as the only family he has ever known, his foster family, says goodbye. This last meeting will either happen the day before or the day of our departure (Sept 1st). Again, this depends on schedules and whatever the social worker and foster family feel is best for Alex.
Other than these few short meetings with Alex, we will have plenty of time to be tourists. We have no definite plans for what we'd like to do, but we'll figure it out. We've done enough traveling overseas that we're pretty confident we'll be able to fill our days up with some cool adventures around Seoul!
I'll be sure to keep you updated as we hear more about what our schedule will look like in Korea. And, of course, I'll post some pictures of Alex as soon as I can!!!
Congratulations!!!!!! What an exciting time!!!!!
