A Need for Families

I don't know quite how to word this post. I am not trying (or wanting) to turn my blog into a platform to promote adoption. I am not trying to convince anyone to adopt. That is a personal decision that families must make on their own, with their own timing and reasoning. However, I do feel the need to modify something I wrote in an earlier post, simply because it is no longer accurate.

I recently wrote that there are families "literally waiting in line" to adopt a baby from Korea. However, I recently learned that my agency is "urgently seeking" families interested in adopting baby boys from Korea. Contrary to what their website states as I write this, I am told that the wait for a boy referral would be "virtually immediate."

If anyone has any questions or comments regarding this new information, feel free to contact me, as always.

  1. Seriously??? For a healthy infant? (Not that we're adopting anymore babies!) Our agency is still saying at least a year for referral. Maybe the slowdown is limited to your agency. Or maybe things are changing with domestic adoption picture. Either way, if this is a trend, more families will go to the Korea program...Ethiopia started out small and is now huge. It's the ebb and flow of international adoption programs I tthink...

  2. Yes, for a healthy 5-6 month old. I'm sure the need will be fulfilled in one way or another. I know that the long wait to travel (up to 11 months) is a big concern for some who may be interested in switching programs. I guess we'll see!

  3. Your little boy is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. One of my dearest friends also adopted from Korea and also has a referral picture in the "infamous red chair!" We have five beautiful children through adoption both domestic and international. Our youngest is named Alec (though everyone in Chile where we live insists on calling him Alex, which is also a great name as you know!) It is a joy and challenge and thrill to become a family through adoption. God bless you on your journey to your son!

  4. Interesting, Jen! I'm hoping this news brings Alex to us sooner than later! We now have crib up + new carpet in Alex's playroom-exciting! He and I were talking at breakfast this morning. His favorite is pancakes/waffles with lots of syrup and OJ. He will be very happy here with all of us. Congrats to you other adoptive parents!!! (P.S. I LOVE the clock! I imagine our little sweet boy is eating breakfast now.)

  5. Thanks Stephanie!

And Mom, this news should have no effect on our travel date. That's cool about the playroom! He's still drinking bottles, though, but maybe he will like pancakes someday. I guess we'll have to wait and see!
